Currently, when artistic practice has been legitimized as a form of thinking, artists-researchers of the Laban field have been taking up the challenge of exploring the concept, sharing an engagement with Laban and Bartenieff’s concepts as a continuous process in the making.
The Seminar will focus on discussing different aspects of LBMS as they appear in contemporary artistic performances. The 2 half-day program will be based on the presentation of short performances, followed by onsite + online dialogues. Our sharing of live performance is a deliberate strategy to avoid the traditional habit of giving more weight to what is written, rather than to how a concept is performed in embodied events.
When necessary, performances will have subtitles, or receive translation. Online discussions will happen in English to facilitate the understanding of all the Forum International Participants.

Inspired by writings, drawings and documents by Pagu, Patricia Galvão’s “stage name”, the performance captures some aspects of this libertarian woman, who exhausts herself and is reborn so many times in the experience of existence, surviving in the memory and imagination as a muse of modernism, but also as a militant worker, feminist writer and first political prisoner in Brazil.

Local da Conferência
O edifício onde hoje funciona a Casa França-Brasil já foi palco de eventos importantes de nossa História. Encomendado em 1819 por D. João VI à Grandjean de Montigny, arquiteto da Missão Artística Francesa, a obra em si é um documento histórico importante. Trata-se do primeiro registro do estilo neoclássico no Rio de Janeiro, tendência que viria então a popularizar-se, dando à cidade marcada por suas casas coloniais um tom mais cosmopolita, à moda europeia.
No dia 13 de maio de 1820, o edifício foi inaugurado como a primeira Praça do Comércio do Rio de Janeiro, cidade sede do Reino Unido de Portugal, Brasil e Algarves. Apenas quatro anos mais tarde, já no contexto do Brasil independente de Portugal, foi transformado por D. Pedro I em Alfândega, função que exerceria até 1944.
Esta obra de Montigny passou em seguida por diferentes usos, tendo servido até 1952 de depósito para os arquivos do Banco Ítalo-Germânico e ainda, de 1956 a 1978, como sede do II Tribunal do Júri. Em 1938 o prédio foi tombado pelo Departamento do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional — atual IPHAN.
Em 1984 a atual vocação da Casa França-Brasil começou a ser traçada. O antropólogo Darcy Ribeiro, então Secretário de Estado de Cultura do Rio de Janeiro, combinou recursos brasileiros e franceses no ano seguinte para restaurar a construção e resgatar as linhas arquitetônicas originais projetadas por Montigny. As etapas para a criação do centro cultural e o trabalho de restauração atravessaram a década de 1980.
Em 29 de março de 1990, foi inaugurada a Casa França-Brasil.
Entre 1990 e 2008, a Casa França-Brasil desenvolveu uma programação eclética, com exposições de temas variados e artistas consagrados, modernos e contemporâneos, como Juan Miró, Glauco Rodrigues, Antonio Henrique Amaral, Irmãos Campana e Niki de Saint Phalle. A partir de 2008, após um importante processo de obras estruturais e de restauração, a Casa França-Brasil assumiu nova missão institucional e linha curatorial, focadas na arte e cultura contemporâneas. Expoentes das artes visuais nacionais e internacionais, como Iole de Freitas, Laura Lima, Miguel Rio Branco, Cristina Iglesias e Chistian Boltanski já ocuparam a Casa França-Brasil com exposições individuais.
A Casa é hoje um pólo de difusão de cultura e referência em arte contemporânea. São oferecidos cursos, seminários, ciclos de palestras, entre outros projetos, além da programação de exposições e eventos culturais.
