CONFERENCE COORDINATORS

The Rio de Janeiro International Conference LABAN 2024: Transculturality and Translation aims to reconsider what is articulated as trans, in the sense of crossing lines, transcending borders, translating differences, and navigating between languages and cultures. In this sense, transculturality and translation establish sharing, but also interventions, subversions, contributions, and permutations that occur in diverse political, geographical, and ideological contexts.
TRANSCULTURALITY AND TRANSLATION
Transculturality is a concept that denotes the altered constitution of cultures, currently characterized by merging and interpenetrations. Transculturality establishes a rupture with homogenizing and separatist views that insist on establishing "pure" categories in symbolic, linguistic, and epistemological terms. It allows them to be thought of as mixtures and permutations, capable of creating areas for the circulation of desire.
We perceive transculturality as a dramaturgical dynamic that favors the production of diversity and is fundamental for the understanding of translation as a field of research and of movement studies. Issues of bilingualism, hybridism, borders, and the translator's involvement in the translation process reflect multiple perspectives and reaffirm translation as an event that traverses territories, reveals differences, and embodies the overflow of languages and cultures.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
These may include, but are not limited to:
• Theoretical and/or methodological parameters that emphasize how Laban and Bartenieff concepts can inform or facilitate mobility and transit processes.
• Labanian approaches that consider the dynamics of mobilities in the production of cultural diversity.
• Paths that the Laban/Bartenieff System can offer for perceiving diversity as an expression of cultural complexity.
• Transformation of LBMS and issues related to translation and original texts.
• LBMS today: Cultural identity and forms of resistance to hegemonic ideologies.
